It's that time of year when you realize that Santa is gone, that you have gained 15 pounds because mama's stuffing is too good to let go to waste, and that it is a new year, which means resolution time.  But how can one make new resolutions without properly reflecting on the past year? Many exciting events have occurred at the University throughout 2007, and I am sure you have forgotten some of them. Here is a brief look back at what you may have missed. >> | National PSE strategy needed: report By Sarah Miller CUP Ontario Bureau Chief January 9, 2008 TORONTO (CUP) -- If Canada does not develop a national strategy for post-secondary education, we risk falling behind in the globalized knowledge economy. The Canadian Council on Learning 2007 report on strategies for success in post-secondary education encapsulated their entire report in that singular recommendation. “There’s no question that not having a national strategy weakens everything about post-secondary education,” reads the report. >>

| Campus Kiss | | Profs attack laptops in the classroom By Cody Crawford The Charlatan, Carleton University January 9, 2008 OTTAWA (CUP) -- Plenty of students bring laptops to classrooms, but using them for an academic purpose is not always their intention and professors across the country are asking students to unplug. Jean Boivin, an economics professor at HEC-Montréal, said that it was not until he found out that one of his students had lost thousands of dollars day-trading during his classes that he decided to try and do something about it. “Students wrote a complaint about their colleague misusing computers in class, which was disrupting them,” said Boivin. >> |
