Stenlund named to development committee

By Ryan Rogers, Sports Editor September 19, 2007 Former Lancers Men’s Hockey coach Dr. Vern Stenlund has been named the new chair of the Hockey Canada’s Athlete Development Committee. After retiring from coaching last winter Stenlund feels that this is a natural step in his career with hockey. 
“The HDC (Hockey Development Committee) works, basically, very quietly away from the glare. It’s one of those committees where a lot of great work gets done and nobody really knows about it,” said Stenlund.>>

New hockey recruits set to add winning touch

Sports Editor September 19, 2007 Pete Belliveau has been brought in to take the reins of the Lancers Men’s Hockey program after the retirement of former head coach Vern Stenlund. Coach Belliveau is looking to bring his winning touch to Windsor and is looking forward to developing a list of 10 freshmen into playoff contenders this season. >>

Sheldon Kennedy brings solutions for abuse

Sports Editor September 19, 2007 When Sheldon Kennedy charged his former coach for sexual abuse, he was looking to find an end, but had no idea that his charges would be just the beginning of an inspiring new career.  Sheldon Kennedy shocked an entire nation when he came forward and charged his former head coach, Graham James, with sexual assault in 1996. James was convicted in January, 1997 of more than 350 incidents of sexual abuse, and served three years in prison. He was also given a lifetime ban from coaching by the Canadian Hockey Association.>> |
